An Evening with Jam & Justice

The Jam and Justice Action Research Collective will be sharing what we have learned and celebrating the outcomes of our projects in Greater Manchester.

How can we govern cities better? In 2016, Jam and Justice set out to test-and-learn how devolution might make Greater Manchester's decision-making more inclusive. An Action Research Collective formed with people from different walks of life. Together, we co-initiated a series of learn-by-doing projects including an inquiry into Care at Home, focus groups with Councillors and communities, and workshops with the VCSE sector and Commissioners exploring procurement and social value.

This work has generated all manner of outputs: a photovoice exhibition revealing the value of Everyday Politics; immersive energy walks probing the history of Manchester's energy supply; a prototype map of transformative economic actors in the GM city-region and more...

It is also provoking social innovation: In April, the Youth Combined Authority recognised our young researchers' call for more money matters in the school curriculum. A planned refresh of the GMCA and GM HSC Partnership's procurement policy is implementing proposals from our work with CLES.

In National Co-Production Week 2019, the Jam & Justice Action Research Collective are sharing findings and wider lessons from this work, and celebrating the outcomes of our projects in Greater Manchester.
